Author Frank Turek Releases New Book Honoring Late Friend Charlie Kirk

Author Frank Turek, known for his long‑standing defense of a Christian worldview, has issued a new book that blends theology, cultural critique and a tribute to the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The volume, The War on Reality: Recovering Truth in a World that Celebrates Lies, is co‑written with Phoenix Hayes and includes a foreword by Erika Kirk, the former leader’s wife.

A book that answers a question the author says “killed” him

Turek says the book was written in part to respond to the murder of Kirk on September 10, 2023. Kirk was shot on the campus of Utah Valley University during the first stop of TPUSA’s “American Comeback Tour.” Turek stood only a few feet from the slain activist, an experience that the author says deepened his resolve to share his worldview.

“The murder of Charlie was the last thing I could have imagined,” Turek told Fox News Digital. “It was the moment I realized that faith had to be more than a private conviction.”

Christian apologetics meets political activism

The book argues that many mainstream cultural narratives—particularly around family, gender, education and politics—defy logic and are harmful. Turek focuses on the transgender debate, asserting that it “causes immeasurable harm to women and children” and describing it as a form of child abuse. He warns that policies “that say we ought to transition children who are confused about their sexuality” are “a war on women” because they undermine protections for women’s sports and changing facilities.

Turek explains that his own preparation for public debate came from a “two‑part strategy.” First, he applies the “laws of logic” to spot fallacies. Second, he practices responding to polarizing topics with evidence and reason. He says he taught Kirk these techniques, helping him “to stand firm on a college campus despite any threat or question that might come his way.”

A mentor‑mentee relationship that grew into family

The friendship between Turek and Kirk began in 2020 when the young activist asked for guidance in Christian apologetics. Over the next three years the pair met regularly to sharpen arguments and discuss campus controversies. Turek has described Kirk as “the same person offstage that he was onstage” and has said the relationship grew to the point where he considered Kirk “a son.”

“I’m not just mentoring a younger man; I’m learning from him too,” Turek said. “His humility surpassed his intellect, and we sharpened one another.”

Erika Kirk’s foreword and a message of confidence

In the foreword, Erika Kirk writes that Charlie’s calm demeanor in hostile debates stemmed from his conviction that “there is a God, I am not Him.” She describes this belief as the foundation that allowed him to “stand firm on a college campus despite any threat or question that might come his way.” The foreword also reflects on how Charlie’s faith helped him respond to the tragedy of a 2005 arson attack that destroyed his family’s Washington, D.C. home.

Memorial service and theological reflections

At the memorial service held weeks after Kirk’s death, Turek offered a prayer that echoed his earlier statements about faith. “Charlie is in heaven,” he said, “not because he was a great husband or a savior of millions, but because his Savior sacrificed himself for him.” He used the service to reiterate his belief that Christians must engage in politics to protect their ability to preach and to live the gospel.

“The laws that are made politically can affect your ability to preach and live the gospel,” Turek told the gathering. “We have to be involved in politics to protect our ability to preach and live the gospel, to have religious freedom.”

A call to action

The book ends with an exhortation for Christians and churches to speak boldly in the public square. Turek cites Romans 13, arguing that governments exist to punish wrongdoers and that Christians should help shape laws that “punish people who are doing evil.” He urges readers to “carry on Kirk’s legacy” by standing up for truth and protecting the innocent.

The War on Reality is now available on Amazon in paperback, ebook and hardcover formats. Readers can order the book online or at participating bookstores across the United States.
