Homan confirms 'criminal' investigation involving Ilhan Omar, says he knows 'things are going on’

DHS Investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar Over Alleged Immigration Fraud, Officials Say
WASHINGTON – A federal investigation is reportedly underway into allegations that Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, engaged in immigration fraud, according to a statement from the White House border czar, Tom Homan, on the “The Sunday Briefing” television program. Homan, who oversees U.S. immigration policy as the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said the investigation is “ongoing” and that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is “looking into” the claims, but declined to share any details.
“We know things are going on, but I can’t give specifics of what’s happening,” Homan told reporters. “If someone committed an immigration violation … no one’s above the law. We’ll let Homeland Security Investigations continue the investigation.”
Homan confirmed that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is involved, noting that the matter has been reported to authorities and “needs to be looked at.” He added that the process could lead to “denaturalization” if fraud is proven.
The allegations stem from long‑running claims that Omar married a man who critics say is her brother as part of an illegal immigration scheme. Omar has denied the accusations, calling them “bigoted lies” on social media in December and has repeatedly stated that the claim is not supported by public records. The U.S. citizen who was allegedly married to her is said to live in London.
Other officials have echoed the sense of a formal inquiry. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin discussed the matter on a podcast, saying, “We know that she married her brother to try to bring him to the United States. We know he now lives in London. If we can prove it, you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, and we will deport you.”
Vice President J.D. Vance, who has spoken publicly about the investigation, said in May that the Justice Department was looking into whether Omar committed immigration fraud. “It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the law,” Vance said. Earlier, in a March interview, he revealed that he had discussed the case with White House immigration adviser Stephen Miller and that they believed Omar “definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America.”
No evidence or charges have been released to the public, and DHS has not confirmed whether the allegations have led to formal charges or a judicial proceeding. The investigation remains “ongoing,” Homan emphasized.
Omar’s office has not yet responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. The situation remains under investigation, and federal authorities have said that the process would be carried out in accordance with existing immigration and naturalization laws.
