Maine High‑School Sports Roundup – Saturday, [Date]

Football, soccer, hockey and other sports deliver a day of hard‑fought battles and standout performances across the state.

Sanford edges Scarborough 44‑36 in Class A South football

Sanford’s offense finished strong, with senior running back Adam Cote Jr. scoring his fourth touchdown of the game on a 2‑yard plunge with 17.8 seconds left. The win improves the team’s record to 1‑5, while Scarborough falls to 0‑6.

Scarborough had tied the contest midway through the fourth quarter. Aiden Carpenter’s 28‑yard run and a conversion pass from Oscar Goss to Quinncy Colvin gave the Saints a 28‑28 stalemate. After a punt exchange, Sanford started its final drive at its own 34-yard line with less than two minutes remaining. Cote’s third‑and‑five conversion came on a 39‑yard catch from Oakley O’Keeffe, and he capped the drive with a left‑end run that pushed the ball into the end zone.

The first half was a high‑scoring affair, with both teams adding 58 points to end at 30‑28 in Sanford’s favor. Cote’s earlier runs of 23, 17 and 65 yards set the tone for the Bulldogs’ offensive surge.

Marshwood 45‑6 over Cheverus in Class B South football

Marshwood (6‑0) extended its season‑long dominance by defeating Cheverus (1‑5) in Portland. Head coach Greg Castoras rushed for four touchdowns, a first‑week repeat. He broke the scoreboard early with a 51‑yard sprint, then followed up with a 69‑yard run by teammate Jack O’Brien that set up a 3‑yard touchdown by Castoras, followed by a 2‑point conversion.

Marshwood’s lead grew to 28‑0 by the end of the second quarter, after a 5‑yard pass to Parker Ferrer and another rush from Castoras. Cheverus managed no first down in the first half, but earned a surprise 45‑yard touchdown on a trick play involving a short pass from Colton Jewett to Jason Holmes and a later handoff to Kevin True.

A fumble forced by Marshwood just outside its own goal line forced a safety that pushed the score to 38‑6. The final score was sealed when Jon Buttrick ran in a one‑yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Westbrook 3‑0 over Bonny Eagle in boys’ soccer

Westbrook (7‑5) beat Bonny Eagle (1‑9) with a 3‑0 victory in a match that saw Mechac Boyilimpo net two goals, including a late opener. Ryan Garber added a third. Westbrook’s goalkeepers—Ahmed Al Obaidi and Ethan Brewer—recorded 12 saves combined, while Bonny Eagle’s Asa Proctor made nine saves.

Khalil Ibrahim and Yussuf Ali scored in the first half, with Daniel Dimandja adding two second‑half goals. The Eagles’ defense could not hold back the attack, and Lewiston’s clean sheet marked a solid performance from goalkeeper Daniel Dimandja.

Thornton Academy 4‑0 over Noble in field hockey

Thornton Academy (8‑3) swept Noble (7‑5) in a 4‑0 victory in North Berwick. Vanessa Dyer and Olivia Lamey each tallied a goal and assisted another. The trio’s efforts opened the scoring with a 1‑0 lead at halftime, then a trio of third‑quarter goals expanded the advantage.

Idella Colley opened the scoring in the first quarter, with Kallie Buck adding in the second quarter. Traip’s Madison Evans stopped five shots; goalkeeper Madelyn Cooley saved 24, keeping the clean sheet.

Mt. Blue 4‑0 over Fryeburg Academy in field hockey
