High schools Monday: Yarmouth field hockey beats York to remain unbeaten

Yarmouth Keeps Undefeated Streak Intact with 6‑0 Victory Over York
Yarmouth, Maine – The Yarmouth High School field‑hockey team extended its flawless record Monday night, defeating the York Knights 6‑0 on the Knights’ home turf. The win kept the Yarmouth squad unbeaten in the season’s conference play.
Three Yarmouth players tallied the six goals. Vivian Corriveau scored a hat‑trick, while Delia Rich, Julie Nasveschuk and Celia Smith added one each, giving the team an 11‑0 scoreline for the game. Goalkeeper Stella Murdock made three saves to preserve the shutout, while York’s Sarah Orso recorded 25 saves but could not stem the onslaught.
“Seeing Corriveau find the back of the net three times was a joy,” said Yarmouth coach Kevin O’Connor. “The team worked hard all week and the result is a testament to that effort.”
York, which had been looking for its first win of the season, was held scoreless for the first time since the opening match. Despite the defeat, York’s defense made 25 saves, and the Knights’ senior forward, Sarah Orso, praised her teammates for keeping the game competitive.
A Separate Match: Greely Dominates Edward Little
At the same weekend, the Greely High School Rangers faced the Edward Little Red Eddies in Cumberland. The Rangers dominated the game, winning 10‑1. Averie Wilson led the scoring, netting two goals, while teammates Natalie Grenier, Maya Tracey and Evelyn Stewart added one each.
Edward Little struggled to contain Greely’s attack, conceding ten goals while scoring just one of their own. The Rangers’ victory moved them up the league standings and added momentum to their playoff push.
“Winning in Cumberland is a big confidence boost,” Greely coach Sarah Mitchell said. “We’re excited to keep this momentum going into the next few weeks.”
The two games highlight the strength of Maine’s high‑school field‑hockey programs. As Yarmouth and Greely continue their strong seasons, fans can look forward to more competitive matchups as the conference race heats up.
