Rain Forces Reschedule of High‑School Field Hockey Showdown in Rockport
The highly‑anticipated match between Mt. Ararat and Camden Hills was called off after a wet first quarter, with both teams hoping to finish the game soon.

The two top‑ranked teams in the Class A North division—Mt. Ararat Eagles (8‑0) and Camden Hills Windjammers (9‑1)—were set to battle in Rockport on Friday afternoon. The game, scheduled for the beginning of the season’s most anticipated field‑hockey matchups, was interrupted after only five minutes of play when a sudden downpour drenched the field. The rain made the turf slick, causing a Camden Hills player to lose footing during a corner kick and fall to the ground.

“We were really excited to play and have a good game and see what we could put together,” said Mt. Ararat head coach Krista Chase. “But we want to play a good game with them, and keep everybody safe and be able to showcase both teams. It’s always harder to do that in the rain and the wet.”

The game was officially suspended after the first, score‑less quarter. Officials are working to determine a new date that will accommodate the teams and the available referees, but no concrete schedule has been announced yet.

Both schools are in excellent form heading into the fall. Mt. Ararat sits at the top of the Varsity Maine Top 10, ranking fourth overall, while Camden Hills is ranked sixth in the same poll and leads the Class A North standings, two positions ahead of Mt. Ararat.

The rain‑induced pause has left fans disappointed but also reminded everyone of the importance of player safety in high‑school sports. “Weather can change the game,” said Camden Hills coach, “and we always want our athletes to be safe.”

Thornton Academy Clinches 8‑1 Victory Over Massabesic in Saco Soccer Game

In a separate high‑school sporting event, Thornton Academy’s boys’ soccer team defeated Massabesic 8‑1 in a match held in Saco. The Trojans, now 8‑0‑1, showcased a potent offense led by striker Edoardo De Mozzi, who netted a hat‑trick. Rafael Faro added a goal and two assists. Other scorers included Davi dos Santos, Ephraim Mambueni, Enzo Mugisha, and Philipe Jardim, while Andres de Haró and David Moyemade each provided two assists.

Massabesic’s goalkeeper, Sean Azara, made nine saves and even scored a penalty kick for the Mustangs before halftime.

The game’s result brings Thornton Academy’s record to 8‑0‑1 and continues to highlight the high level of competition in local high‑school soccer.
