This season, Varsity Maine reporters will offer up suggestions each week for three games that are worth a drive to watch in person, with a brief explanation of why we think these games are worth a fan’s time.

With just two weeks to go in the regular season for most Maine football teams, and three remaining for some, there are several season-defining matchups.

And for some teams, this is the second week in a row in which that’s the case.

Here are three Week 7 games to keep on your radar:

Hermon (6-0) at Greely (5-1), 7 p.m. Friday

Still undefeated, Hermon has made light work of its opponents, outscoring them 258-32. The Hawks have yet to face their first true test, which should come against the defending state champion.

Greely had a 21-game winning streak broken by Leavitt in its second game of the season — a rematch of the 2025 state final. Since then, the Rangers have won four in a row. They defeated Oceanside 35-8 last week behind four touchdowns from quarterback Luke Piper.

Could Greely be the team that finally knocks off Hermon, or will the Hawks affirm their status as a title contender?

South Portland (4-2) at Noble (2-4), 7 p.m. Friday

South Portland and Noble were dealt two of the state’s most difficult schedules this fall.

The Red Riots and Knights have both had to face Class A South juggernauts Bonny Eagle and Thornton Academy — the top two teams in the Varsity Maine 11-man football poll — and Noble also has played fourth-ranked Marshwood.

South Portland got the best of another strong A South team in Massabesic last week, while Noble lost to the Mustangs on Oct. 2.

Currently sitting in fourth place in the A South Heal point standings, the Red Riots could essentially clinch a playoff spot by defeating Noble, which is fifth and one spot out of the postseason.

The Knights prevailed when the two teams faced off last year. After such a topsy-turvy first six games of the season, Noble badly needs a win to realistically keep its playoff hopes alive.

Portland (5-1) at Oxford Hills (4-1), noon Saturday

Through the first six weeks of the season, Portland and Oxford Hills have emerged as the front-runners in Class A North, so this game could be a regional final preview.

Both teams were undefeated until recently. Portland lost to Thornton Academy, 43-13, on Oct. 2, and the Vikings lost to Bonny Eagle, 45-6, on Oct. 9.

Portland won last year’s regular-season meeting, and Oxford Hills never got a chance to avenge that loss, as Bangor knocked off the Vikings in the semifinals.

The Bulldogs will have to be on the lookout for a rushing attack spearheaded by junior Keegan Ridley and quarterback Toby Oufiero, the latter of which tallied four touchdowns against Lewiston on Oct. 2, while the Vikings will have to be wary of Portland’s Alex Martin, who rushed for two touchdowns against Bangor last weekend and gained 219 yards against Thornton.
