Portland, MD – In a tightly contested Eastern League matchup on Thursday night in Bowie, the Portland Sea Dogs rallied from a 4‑1 deficit in the seventh inning to defeat the Chesapeake Baysox 5‑4. The win hinged on two homers from Henry Godbout, one of which broke the tie in the ninth.
Godbout, Boston’s second‑round pick in last year’s draft, hit a solo blast in the seventh to give the Sea Dogs a 4‑2 lead. He followed that with a ninth‑inning solo shot that capped a four‑run comeback. The two homers bring his season total to seven in 17 games with Portland and 14 across 69 games at all three of the club’s levels.
The Sea Dogs’ comeback began when Max Ferguson also belted a solo homer after the Sea Dogs were down 4‑1 in the seventh. The duo’s two runs made the score 5‑4. Earlier in the game, Portland’s Brooks Brannon had opened the scoring with his 21st homer of the season in the second inning. Chesapeake had taken an early lead with a three‑run inning that included a solo homer from Colin Tuft.
A key moment came in the eighth inning when Tyler McDonough, who had doubled to start the frame, moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 4‑4. That set the stage for Godbout’s ninth‑inning tiebreaker.
