Heating oil prices are another casualty of war | Letter

The beautiful coastline of Maine apparently now reaches to the Strait of Hormuz. We have a century-old house that uses propane for radiator heat and hot water use.

We have always done the annual service contract for supply and maintenance since we moved to Augusta eight years ago. The cost has risen pretty steadily year over year, but this year the price increase is 47% higher than last year. Despite our nation having gone all in on fracking, with serious environmental consequences, the benefits only accrue to the private companies that only sell through global markets. Those markets have been upended by Trump’s war with Iran, and the closing of the Strait of Hormuz, a fact that will not be casually or quickly undone
despite the blather from the Oval Office and the MAGA congress.

Be prepared for sharply rising costs on all fronts orchestrated by this out-of-control president and his enablers.
