Heathco’s Pizza & Variety closed after car slams into Auburn shop

Auburn Pizza Shop Closed After Red Sedan Crashes Through Wall
Auburn, Maine – The late‑night crash that smashed a car into the north‑east wall of Heathco’s Pizza & Variety left the family‑run restaurant shuttered indefinitely.
The incident occurred early Monday morning, around 3:20 a.m., when a red sedan drove through a hole in the shop’s exterior, sending a blast of glass and debris into the dining area. Photos posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page show the vehicle’s mangled front end amid a tangle of wreckage and a car‑sized opening in the wall.
“We will be closed until further notice, thank you!” the restaurant’s page read, a note that the manager, Abigail Chartier, later confirmed was taken directly from the post.
Chartier told local station WMTW that the incident marked at least the third car to strike Heathco’s in recent memory, though the circumstances of each hit remain unclear. “The condition of the driver and the circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear,” Chartier said. “The driver’s identity has not been released.”
The Auburn Police Department has not yet released any statements regarding the crash, and the department did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning. Authorities are reportedly investigating the cause of the crash, but no details have emerged.
Heathco’s Pizza & Variety, a popular spot for locals, has not yet indicated when, or if, it will reopen. The shop’s social media post simply thanked patrons and announced the closure.
The incident follows a series of unfortunate events that have drawn attention to the safety of the building’s structure and the surrounding streets. Residents of Auburn and the surrounding area have expressed concern over what seems to be a pattern of vehicle collisions at the restaurant’s location.
The case remains under investigation. Police, the restaurant, and local authorities have been urged to share any updates as more information becomes available.
