Guilford man charged with murder in deadly assault; officials identify 1 victim

The man arrested in connection with a deadly assault in Piscataquis County was charged with murder on Tuesday, and officials identified the man he’s accused of killing.
Ryan Carleton, 49, of Guilford, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault following the attack that left a man dead and a woman in critical condition on Sunday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release Monday.
Moss said the charges would be elevated pending a hearing in Piscataquis County Court on Tuesday. A court clerk confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Carleton has also been charged with intentional or knowing murder.
On Tuesday night, Moss identified the man who died as Brent Doore, 63. Officials have yet to release the name of the injured woman, who was still hospitalized in critical condition as of Tuesday, Moss said.

The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office responded to 24 Pine St. in Guilford on Sunday evening for a well-being check, Moss said Monday. Sheriff’s deputies found a man and woman who were seriously injured next door at 26 Pine St. and requested assistance from state police.
Doore died while being taken to a hospital, Moss said, while the woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
An autopsy was conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta on Monday, Moss said, and Doore’s cause of death was determined to be multiple sharp force injuries. His death was ruled a homicide.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation with assistance from the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.
