Greater Southern Maine eliminated from American Legion Northeast regional

Nico Calano pitched a complete game as Essex Junction (Vermont) eliminated Greater Southern Maine from the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional with a 10-1 win on Friday in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
The Sanford-based Maine champion went 0-2 in the tournament, losing to host Shrewsbury, Massachusetts to fall into the losers’ bracket on Thursday.
Calano allowed one unearned run on three hits, while striking out four and walking two.
Greater Southern Maine took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Parker Bjorklund walked with one out, advanced on a balk and a stolen base, then scored on a passed ball.
Vermont tied it on an RBI single by Jake Philbrick in the top of the second, then took the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Alec Davis had an RBI single, Garret Carter an RBI double and Owen Labor an RBI triple in the inning.
Cassius Hogan, Noah Lachance and Baxter Flagg each had a hit for Greater Southern Maine.
