Pennsylvania Mother Charged After Husband and Son Found Dead at Resort Hotel

A Towanda woman was arrested Monday and faces two counts of criminal homicide after her husband and 3‑year‑old son were discovered dead in a Great Wolf Lodge hotel room in Pocono Township, Monroe County. Police responded to the resort’s room 2030 around 3:13 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from the woman, who was found at the doorway with self‑inflicted wounds.

The victim’s names have not been released beyond the identification of the husband as Charles Harrison and the son by his initials. According to the criminal complaint, officers entered the room to find Charles Harrison with multiple stab wounds to the chest, while the toddler showed a single puncture wound to the same area. The mother, identified as 27‑year‑old Metallica Rose Harrison, was treated for cuts to her wrist and neck injuries before being transported to St. Luke’s Hospital’s Monroe Campus.

Harrison told investigators she wanted to be with her family members, and during the ambulance ride she made a statement about her vision of a “happy family.” “It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child,” she allegedly said. Earlier, while at the scene, she also told responders, “Every day, I work so hard. To be the best person, the best mother, the best wife,” before expressing how the situation had unfolded.

Evidence collected from the bathroom included a large kitchen knife and a smaller blade, both with teal‑green handles that staff said were not part of the lodge’s normal inventory. Several medication bottles were also found scattered around the room. The Harrisons had checked into the resort on September 21 and extended their stay on October 5; their scheduled checkout was the following day.

Monroe County District Attorney Michael Mancuso described the case as “disturbing reading” and confirmed that investigators are still gathering additional evidence. In a statement, Mancuso emphasized that Harrison is presumed innocent and that prosecutors must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He thanked the responding officers, Pennsylvania State Police forensic teams, and the county coroner’s office for their work on what he called a “complex double homicide scene.”

Pocono Township police characterized the incident as an isolated domestic tragedy and said there was no ongoing threat to the community. Great Wolf Lodge released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the losses. “It was an isolated family incident, and we’re cooperating fully with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation,” the resort said. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected.”

Harrison remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities collecting forensic data and reviewing the resort’s security footage. The case has drawn attention due to its brutal nature and the involvement of a young child, prompting local officials to stress that the incident does not reflect broader safety concerns for visitors to the area.
