Great white shark spotted near Harpswell beach

A fisherman reported a great white shark near a Harpswell beach Monday afternoon.
The shark surfaced a few hundred yards off Cedar Beach on Bailey Island around 4 p.m. Monday, [the town said in a social media post](https://www.facebook.com/reel/1049783231320932).
Town staff raised a warning flag at Cedar Beach to alert visitors to be careful in the water.
[A summer resident was killed](https://www.pressherald.com/2020/07/28/new-york-woman-killed-in-maines-first-fatal-shark-attack/) in July 2020 by a great white while swimming near her home on Bailey Island.
