Readers invited to submit questions for revived AskME series
The Portland Press Herald is bringing back AskME, a reader-driven series focused on answering questions about life in Maine.
The feature began in 2020, when Press Herald reporters took on inquiries about the state’s unusual names, local traditions and everyday curiosities. Previous stories examined why Portland’s airport is called a jetport and uses the letters PWM, how Maine came to be known as Vacationland, why Augusta received its name and became the state capital, and whether moose crossing signs in southern Maine are aimed mainly at tourists.
The series is returning because Mainers continue to have questions about the state’s history, culture and customs. This time, the work will involve reporters from the Press Herald, the Sun Journal and Central Maine newspapers.
Readers are being asked to submit questions they would like the newsrooms to investigate. Reporters will work to track down answers and share what they learn through the revived AskME feature.
