Gorham eliminated in Little League Softball regional

Gorham’s run through the Little League Softball New England Regional ended Wednesday when Cranston, Rhode Island, scored six runs in the fourth inning and pulled away to an 11-1 victory in an elimination game at Bristol, Connecticut.

The game was stopped after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Cranston, which lost 11-1 to Bristol earlier in the day, advanced to play the Connecticut champion for the regional title.

Gorham finished 3-2 in the regional, also losing to Bristol.

Gorham, seeking to extend the game to the sixth inning, scored in the fifth. Amelia Cote hit a line single to left with one out, then moved to second when Hannah Wilson’s outfield liner was misplayed. Nora Emlet’s grounder drove in Cote before a strikeout ended it.

Cranston took charge with two runs in the first and another in the third before the six-run fourth put it out of reach. The Rhode Island champion added two runs in the fifth.

Cote finished with two of Gorham’s five hits. Natalie McCurdy, Karli Piacitelli and Emlet each had a single.
