Golf cult hero Michael Block shares wild quote about his wife and kids amid impressive PGA Tour Champions run

Michael Block, a seasoned PGA teaching professional who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, is finding a new rhythm on the senior circuit. After a memorable stint as a rookie on the PGA Tour Champions, the California‑based golfer has already secured a top‑10 finish at the Simmons Bank Championship and has not missed a single cut in 11 starts, earning a total of just over $600,000.
A rapid ascent on the senior tour
Block's journey to the senior tour began two weeks after he turned 50 in June, when he made his debut at the PGA Tour Champions event in late July. The former teaching pro finished tied for ninth, an impressive result for a first appearance. Since then, he has added ten more starts, posting three top‑five finishes and a T‑10 at the Simmons Bank Championship over the weekend.
The 51‑year‑old posted a 66 in the opening round of the Simmons Bank event and finished the tournament tied for tenth place. The result earned him a $51,000 payday, a welcome boost that he said “probably felt good in the pocket,” but he was quick to emphasize that the money is only one part of the experience.
A focus on family and stability
Following the event, Block gave a brief interview that highlighted his personal priorities. “Yes, of course, the money’s a part of being on the PGA Tour Champions,” he said. “But to me, I still drive the same car, live in the same house, have the same wife, I have the same kids, I still work from my phone, and you know what, it is what it is, and it hasn’t changed me one iota.” He added that he is “just having a blast, having a great time.”
Block also praised the support he receives from his home club. “I have a very supportive country club back in Orange County, California called Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club,” he explained. “The ownership and management supports me 100 percent and there’s no way on God’s green earth that I could do what I’m doing without.”
A career that keeps going
Block’s career on the regular PGA Tour saw him make headlines at the 2023 PGA Championship, where he finished tied for 15th and hit a memorable hole‑in‑one in the final round while playing alongside Rory McIlroy. The moment cemented his reputation as a golfer who can produce flashes of brilliance on the biggest stage.
Now, on the senior circuit, he has continued to build on that momentum. With 11 starts and a flawless record of making every cut, Block’s earnings of $600,000 are a testament to his consistency and skill.
Looking ahead
With his recent success and steady earnings, Michael Block is positioning himself as a player to watch on the PGA Tour Champions. His blend of experience, steady performance, and a grounded personal life suggests he could become a regular contender in senior events for years to come.
