Georgia Police Seek Man Who Stole Towels After “Obsessed” With Rubber Duck in Strangers’ Hot Tub

Chatham County, Georgia – Police are asking the public for help locating a man who entered a private home, used the owner’s hot tub, became fixated on a rubber duck, and left with six luxury beach towels valued at $1,200.

The incident occurred at a residence on the 9000 block of Whitefield Avenue on the night of September 1. Surveillance footage captured the suspect on a bicycle entering the property between 2:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. He was first seen swimming in the pool before moving to the hot tub. Police say he spent more than ten minutes “intensely interacting” with a rubber duck in the tub, an action that has prompted the unusual police description: “He trespassed onto their property, used their hot tub, became obsessed with their rubber duck, then stole their pool towels.”

The suspect’s actions were recorded on grainy, black‑and‑white footage that shows him holding the duck near his face, though the exact nature of his interaction is unclear. After the incident, he left the home on the same bicycle, taking with him six beach towels – each valued at roughly $200 – that were visible in a basket under his bike in the video.

“We’d like to find this guy so he doesn’t do this to someone else,” the Chatham County Police Department wrote in a statement. The department added that while the theft “has a lot of ick‑factor,” it is “obviously not the biggest crime we've dealt with this month.”

The suspect remains unidentified. The police released photos of the individual from the surveillance footage and have urged anyone who recognizes him to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with information can contact the Chatham County Police Department at the number listed on their website.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking any leads that could lead to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of the stolen property.
