Friday night football was a showcase of talent, strategy, and relentless determination, as 15 senior‑class teams battled it out on a rainy September evening. From a 28‑7 rout of the Sanford Spartans in Windham to a 30‑22 thriller that had Old Orchard Beach’s Seagulls fighting until the final seconds, the games highlighted standout performances that are already shaping the season’s narrative.

Windham Eagles dominate Sanford Spartans, 28‑7

In a Class A showdown in Windham, quarterback Lucas Davenport connected on four touchdown passes to receiver Landon Wyman in the first half alone, setting the tone for a convincing 28‑7 victory. After a 7‑point tie late in the second quarter, Wyman capped a 43‑yard sprint and a 35‑yard reception for two of the Eagles’ scores. Davenport’s last pass of the half—a short drive to Tegan Perkins—extended the lead to 22‑7 with just over a minute remaining.

With only two plays left, the Eagles added a fourth touchdown when Wyman caught a 14‑yard pass with 15.7 seconds on the clock, finalizing the win. Sanford’s sole points came from Michael Wiley’s 14‑yard run early in the first quarter, but the Spartans couldn’t find the end zone again. The Eagles finish Friday at 1‑1, while Sanford drops to 0‑2.

Thornton Academy Golden Trojans roll over South Portland Red Riots, 35‑21

Thornton kept its undefeated streak alive, defeating South Portland 35‑21. Running backs Brennan Tabor and Noah Fullerton each logged two touchdown runs—Tabor’s 51‑yard surge in the third quarter proved a key blowout moment, while Fullerton’s 19‑ and 15‑yard bursts added momentum. Josiah Blain finished with a 7‑yard touchdown on the day.

South Portland’s offense, guided by quarterback Shea Healy, produced three touchdown passes: a 10‑yard throw to Jacoby Jellow, a 68‑yard scramble to Christopher Salamone, and a final 8‑yard connection back to Jellow. Despite their efforts, the Red Riots couldn’t keep pace, leaving the Trojans at 2‑0 and the Red Riots at 0‑2.

Portland Bulldogs shut out Scarborough Red Storm, 25‑0

Portland’s offense was led by rookie Alex Martin, who rushed for two touchdowns in the second half—a 1‑yard plunge from the Wildcat formation and a 39‑yard surge that pushed the score to 25‑0. On the defensive side, Justin Bouchard supplied the Bulldogs with two 33‑yard field goals, accounting for all of the first‑half points before the first‑half clock ran down.
