Polo Ralph Lauren will be closing its outlet in Freeport after more than four decades.

The 76 Main St. store is scheduled to shutter on Aug. 21, company spokesperson Isabella Campione confirmed in an email Wednesday.

The company declined to offer any further comment.

The Ralph Lauren outlet first opened in Freeport in the early 1980s as several retailers rode the L.L.Bean wave into downtown Freeport, according to a 1984 New York Times story about the town’s rise as a shopping destination.
