Franklin Arias, Anthony Eyanson chosen for Futures Game
Portland Sea Dogs shortstop Franklin Arias and pitcher Anthony Eyanson have been selected to play for the American League in the All-Star Futures Game, with rosters announced Wednesday by Major League Baseball.
Arias, ranked as baseball’s No. 7 prospect by MLB.com, is hitting .332 for the Sea Dogs with a 1.020 OPS and a career-high 17 home runs. Eyanson, in his first professional season, has a 1.29 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings, including eight appearance for the Sea Dogs. MLB.com’s No. 54 prospect has held opponents without an earned run in nine of 13 appearances overall.
The Futures Game will be played at noon Sunday at Citizen Bank Park in Philadelphia.
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
The Portland Sea Dogs hit three solo home runs in the first four innings Wednesday and held on for a 3-2 victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the opening game of an Eastern League doubleheader in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Johanfran Garcia, Miguel Bleis and Ronald Rosario homered for Portland. New Hampshire was held to three hits, but two of them were solo homers, by Nick Goodwin and Arjun Nimmala.
Winning pitcher Dalton Rogers (1-2) allowed the two solo homers in his five innings. Patrick Halligan struck out five in his two scoreless innings of relief.
In the nightcap, Carter Cunningham capped a three-run second inning with a two-run homer, leading the Fisher Cats to a 6-2 victory.
Portland got both of its runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jack Winnay and a double by Nate Baez.
