Former Scarborough police lieutenant indicted for alleged theft
A former lieutenant from the Scarborough Police Department has been indicted for an alleged theft that occurred while he was employed with the department.
A Cumberland County grand jury indicted Timothy Barker, 55, for Class B theft, according to a press release from the police.
The police department informed the Maine Office of the Attorney General in December 2025 of Barker’s alleged conduct, and the office conducted a criminal investigation in the past few months.
Barker retired on Feb. 2 after 31 years with the department.
The release does not say if the theft involved the department’s property. The town of Scarborough and the attorney general’s office said they would not make further comments about the allegations at this time.
Theft is elevated to a Class B crime when the item stolen exceeds $10,000 in value, is a firearm or explosive device, or the person committing the crime is armed at the time of the theft, according to Maine statute. Class B theft is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
