Flip-flop atop Varsity Maine boys soccer poll

Brunswick Tops Boys Soccer Poll, Sets Stage for Clash with Lewiston
September 29, 2026 – The latest Varsity Maine boys soccer poll, released after a full slate of games played before Tuesday, Sept. 29, places Brunswick High School’s Dragons at the top of the state rankings, edging out Lewiston’s Blue Devils by a single point.
Brunswick, which earned a decisive 5‑0 victory over Edward Little on Sept. 15 in Auburn, has collected 86 points in the poll, including five first‑place votes from the Varsity Maine staff. Lewiston follows closely with 85 points and four first‑place votes. The two schools had been tied for first in the prior week's poll, each receiving four top‑spot endorsements. Brunswick’s new first‑place vote has tipped the balance in its favor.
The next meeting on the calendar— a Tuesday night showdown between the Dragons and the Blue Devils— could see the two teams trade places again. “We’ll see if they can keep the margins that close,” said a Varsity Maine analyst. “It’s going to be a pivotal matchup for the standings.”
Poll Highlights
The top ten list remains unchanged from the previous edition, with only a few shuffles at the bottom:
- Brunswick – 86 points (5 first‑place votes)
- Lewiston – 85 points (4 first‑place votes)

What’s Ahead
The upcoming Brunswick‑Lewiston game will not only decide bragging rights for the remainder of the season but also has the potential to shift the top two positions once again. A win for the Dragons could solidify their lead, while a victory for the Blue Devils would bring them back to the summit.
As the season progresses, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see whether Brunswick can maintain its edge or if Lewiston’s momentum will carry them back to the top spot.
