A person died after the SUV they were driving struck a pickup truck and then a dump truck in Saco, officials say.
The Saco police and fire departments responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash near 977 Route 1 in Saco at about 3 p.m. Thursday, city police said in a release.
A preliminary investigation found that a gray SUV was traveling southbound when it crossed the center line near the intersection of Waterfall Drive and struck a black pickup truck, the department said.
The SUV then continued another 950 feet before “a tragic collision” with a blue dump truck, police said.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, the Saco Police Department said. The driver was not identified pending notification of next of kin. Police did not say whether anyone else was injured.
Route 1 was down to one lane in both directions in the area for several hours following the crash.
The Kennebunk and Windham police departments, the York County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police’s commercial vehicle enforcement unit are assisting in the investigation, the Saco Police Department said.
