Church Ouster Fails to Shake Faith of 'Suburban Wives' Star

Tammy, a cast member on TLC's reality series "Double Lives of Suburban Wives," says being expelled from her church over her adult-content career ultimately strengthened her religious conviction even as it strained her trust in fellow congregants.

The St. Louis-based show, which premiered August 9, follows six couples managing suburban family life alongside careers in adult entertainment. Tammy and her husband Drew, who have built the business together since college, are portrayed as stable figures within the group, though Tammy acknowledges an ongoing tension between her Christian beliefs and her professional life. She also said the side hustle cost her a corporate job.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Tammy described the church removal as a test she passed by keeping her focus on God rather than on human judgment.

"Me being kicked out of the church that I was at was a real, I think, testament to my faith, in that it never wavered my faith in God," she said. "It, of course, made me look at my faith in people."

She said she ultimately chose forgiveness, recognizing that people operate according to their own understanding.

"I did have to, like, choose to forgive for my own heart that, you know, people are people. People make wrong judgments," Tammy explained. "You know, they're doing their best of what they think to, like, lead us in the way that they think they should."

Tammy framed her career as part of a larger divine purpose, noting that God's knowledge of her heart outweighs outside opinions.

"But ultimately, at the end of the day, God knows my heart," she continued. "You know, God has purpose even in my life right now, as I'm sitting in this chair, you know, that pastor didn't know about. And I lean into that more than I do human opinions."

The actress acknowledged the moral complexity directly when asked whether her work constitutes sin.

"I think there are sinful elements, obviously, I'm not going to ignore that, but just like everything else in life, we are not perfect," Tammy said.

She added that imperfection does not preclude spiritual growth.

"But I think out of that imperfection, God can still do amazing things, and I'm focusing on that," she said.

Tammy also invoked Christian teachings on judgment, challenging critics to examine their own shortcomings.

"I would just challenge them to look at their own lives," she said, referencing the biblical passage about casting the first stone. "I mean, in the Bible, it says, like, you know, you who've cast the first stone, you know, like we're not all blameless and sinless."

Her co-star Brianna joined the conversation, asking, "Who's to say that your sin is worse?" Tammy responded that visibility differs from morality.

"Yeah, or yours is just hidden and mine I'm open about," she said.

Tammy admitted the conflict remains an internal debate. When asked if she has considered abandoning adult-content creation because of her faith, she said the thought surfaces regularly.

"I think it's an internal struggle that always pops in your head," she acknowledged.

However, she cited family motivations as a counterweight, explaining that she entered the industry to secure more time with her children and improved financial stability.

"The whole point of why I got into content creation was to have more family time and to have some more wholesome things where I can be there for my kids and provide for my kid in ways that I didn't have before," Tammy said. "So to consider one without the other just does it no justice."

The series' broadcast has amplified public scrutiny. Tammy said the couple anticipated backlash before agreeing to appear.

"We had to know for sure, for sure, for sure that we're gonna be okay," she recalled.

She described the show as more than a fleeting television appearance, saying it offers a chance to address misinformation.

"It's not just to be like, oh, I have my five minutes of fame on TV," she said. "It's like we obviously have a lot to speak about as people and about the judgments and the stigmas and a lot of the misinformation that surrounds what we do."

Beyond the screen, Tammy reported escalating hostility in her daily routines. She said some gym members have confronted her aggressively, though main staff members have remained supportive. She continues visiting the gym about five times weekly. The confrontation, seen by viewers during the series, involved Tammy and other cast members.

"There have been some gym goers that now, like, feel brazen to, you know, to come out and be nasty towards me," she said. "But I will say that the gym has really stuck up for me in that regard so far."

When pressed about leaving St. Louis to escape the criticism, Tammy refused.

"Heck no, I will not be pushed out of spaces," she said. "I am a normal deserving human being, just like everybody else. Even if you don't agree with what I do, like I still deserve to be in spaces."

She insisted that standing firm prevents bullying and that her family deserves the same respect and safety as any other residents.

"No, I deserve to live where I want to live," Tammy said. "My family deserves to live with the same respect, privacy, safety as everybody else."
