Dolly Parton’s nephew erupted in profanity-laced tirade in emails days before her death

Dolly Parton’s Nephew Faces Legal Action Over Email Feud With Legend’s Business Team
A series of harsh emails exchanged in August 2023 between Dolly Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, and members of the country‑music star’s business circle have led to a restraining order, a firing and a legal battle that continues into October. The controversy erupted just days after the singer’s death and has sparked a dispute over security arrangements at a Nashville hotel project, accusations of threats, and claims of “terrorizing conduct.”
Who is Bryan Seaver?
Seaver is the nephew of Dolly Parton and was the longtime head of security for the 80‑year‑old entertainer. He also runs his own security company, Squadron Augmented Protection Services (SAPS). The family selected Seaver to deliver the official announcement of Parton’s death on August 25, 2023, after the singer’s brief battle with cancer.
What Happened?
On August 21, 2023, Seaver sent an email to a chain that included Parton’s manager, Danny Nozell, and other associates of the singer. The message, subjected “Fwd: Letter from Dolly,” was laced with profanity and a series of accusations directed at the team. Seaver’s tone was combative:
“Hi Billy. Message received,”
“If you think my harsh language is too much for your failing vendors to digest, just wait until my lawyers start f‑ing you up the a.”
“I challenge you to bring spurious and feeble complaints. Let’s play ball you f‑ing s‑bag loser.”
“Explain to your shareholders why your project is still failing and your building is unfinished, unoccupied and mired in violations.”
“I encourage it. Go f‑ yourself you f‑ing weakling.”
“Tell Mr. [redacted] to call me and we’ll talk man to man. Otherwise, your doom ensues.”
Earlier on the same day, Seaver had written:
“Your contract security company (Titan) you’ve hired in spite of me and Dolly’s request for service at the hotel has completely f‑ed up and let an employee be assaulted.”
“Let me know when you are ready to hand the security situation completely over to Dolly’s contracted service providers in Nashville and I will fix your problem.”
“SAPS (Seaver’s Squadron Augmented Protection Services) is your answer.”
The emails also complained that a Nashville hotel project was “late and worrisome,” that subcontractors were “continu[ing] to do drugs in our venue,” and that the building was “unfinished, unoccupied and mired in violations.”
A Shift From Earlier Exchanges
The August exchanges stand in stark contrast to an email thread from May 29, 2023, when Seaver offered to help staff and train security personnel for the Nashville project. The recipient, identified only as “Bill,” thanked him for his “genuine care and concern” and expressed hope that the two teams would support each other. Seaver’s August tone suggested a dramatic shift in the relationship that had previously been amicable.
Legal Fallout
After Parton’s death, Seaver’s conduct drew the attention of Dolly Parton’s business entity, She’s Alive, LLC, which was created by the singer to manage her interests. The company’s manager, Danny Nozell, filed a temporary restraining order in Tennessee against Seaver and his company. The judge granted the order, citing:
- a pattern of “threats and demands for payment,”
- Seaver’s “claimed access to weapons, experience with violence, and intention to retaliate,” and
- the need to protect She’s Alive employees and partners.
The order bars Seaver and SAPS from entering She’s Alive properties, from approaching employees within 1,000 feet of their homes or offices, and from contacting employees, partners or business associates. It also requires him to stay away from all business communications. A hearing is scheduled for October 20, and the order remains in effect until then.
Seaver was fired by She’s Alive on September 15, 2023, after the company cited “terrorizing conduct” in its decision. The company also claimed that Seaver’s emails had prompted several employees to resign, caused the trust and estate attorney to step away, and prompted the hiring of private security for staff both at work and at home.
Seaver has denied the accusations. In a statement to ABC News, he said:
“I’ve never threatened anyone. I call the restraining order spurious and simply a publicity stunt.”
He also maintains that the messages were taken out of context. Nonetheless, She’s Alive’s attorneys filed a complaint on October 5, 2023, stating that Seaver did not dispute sending the messages and that he had attempted to evade service by blocking a process server’s attempts.
Family Response
Dolly Parton’s sister, Freida, has publicly defended Seaver. She said:
“There is no feud within our family. We all love Bryan, just as we all love each other.”
Freida’s comments come amid ongoing litigation and public speculation about the nature of the dispute.
Current Status
The restraining order will remain in force until the hearing on October 20. Seaver has been granted additional time to secure counsel. The case is still developing, and further filings are expected as the parties prepare for the hearing.
The incident underscores the complex relationships that can exist
