Do not neglect Maine’s college basketball teams | Letter

We all know how much Maine people love their basketball. With basketball season almost upon us, I’d like to remind sports reporters at these newspapers that, in Maine, interest in the sport is not limited to high school basketball teams. Many of your readers — and potential readers — closely follow the basketball teams of Maine’s colleges and universities.

In addition to the University of Maine, colleges with exciting basketball programs in Maine include Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Husson University, Maine Maritime Academy, Saint Joseph College, Thomas College, University of Maine at Farmington, University of Maine at Presque Isle, University of New England and the University of Southern Maine.

Except for the University of Maine, in recent years, basketball coverage of Maine’s colleges has been conspicuously absent from your pages. Please consider how many people will be pleased by better coverage of Maine college basketball. Give these programs the coverage they deserve.
