Death Notice: William “Bill” Carney

Saco — William “Bill” Carney, a longtime resident of Saco, Maine, passed away on May 19. He was 89 years old.

Carney was born and raised in Saco, where he spent most of his life raising his family and becoming a familiar presence in the community. Neighbors remember him for his warm smile, his readiness to help others, and his deep love for his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—tending his garden, walking along the historic downtown waterfront, and sharing stories with friends.

He is survived by his children, Michael and Kathleen, and several grandchildren who adored him. Carney was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, and his brother, James. The family has expressed gratitude for the many acts of kindness and support they have received during this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Dennett Craig and Pate Funeral Home in Saco. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at the funeral home on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Saco Community Food Pantry.

“We are honored to serve the Carney family and to help celebrate Bill’s life,” said funeral director Jessica Craig. “He will be remembered for his kindness and his dedication to those around him.”
