Gorham Resident David Wayne Gutter Dies at 81; Celebration of Life Planned for October

A celebration of Mr. Gutter’s life will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, at the American Legion Hall in Scarborough. The event is open to friends, family, and community members who wish to pay their respects.
Mr. Gutter spent his later years in Gorham, a Cumberland County town of roughly 18,000 people situated just west of Portland. The community, known for its historic village center and proximity to Sebago Lake, has been home to multiple generations of families who have worked in the region’s manufacturing, education, and service sectors.
He died in Portland, Maine’s largest city and the regional hub for medical care, where many residents of surrounding towns receive treatment at Maine Medical Center and other facilities.
The American Legion Hall in Scarborough, where the celebration will take place, serves as a regular gathering place for veterans’ organizations and community events in the greater Portland area. The post, like others across the state, provides meeting space for ceremonies, social functions, and memorial services.
