Danger to our children is no coincidence | Letter

Children are our beloved treasures; parents are so proud of them. They bring smiles to our faces and hope to our future.

I had the privilege to work with children for 30 years, practicing pediatrics in Portland. I spent my days making sure kids were safe in their homes, growing well, staying healthy. I encouraged all the things to ensure a successful future.

I am dismayed by what I’m witnessing in Maine and our country over the past year. Along with an infectious diarrhea outbreak, we are dealing with the worst number of measles cases in the U.S. in 35 years. Infants are dying from hemorrhaging due to misinformation being fed to their parents about the supposed dangers of standardized protocols used by doctors to protect infants’ health.

More families are struggling to find food to put on their tables across Maine, and another maternity unit is closing, this time in Lincoln County.

It’s not a coincidence that all of this has been occurring over the past year. This is due to immoral representatives who have spread misinformation, cut funding, and who have removed people from positions who have the  expertise to keep our kids safe.

Let’s elect local, state and federal representatives who have moral character and will work for the good of all our kids and us.
