Couple injured in Penobscot County crash that sent vehicle 14 feet in the air
A Dover-Foxcroft couple were injured Thursday in a crash that sent their vehicle 14 feet in the air and into multiple trees in Charleston.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and multiple area fire and EMS departments were dispatched to the crash on Route 15 in Charleston shortly after 12:10 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release Friday.
The vehicle struck a raised driveway, launching it through trees and 14 feet into the air, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver, a 78-year-old Dover-Foxcroft man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center via LifeFlight, the sheriff’s office said. His 71-year-old wife was also injured and transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Both were trapped in the vehicle after the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Charleston and Corinth fire departments and Northern Light-Mayo Ambulance assisted in the response.
