Concerts for a Cause to present Yard Sauce for October show in Brunswick

Maine‑based trio Yard Sauce to headline charity concert in Brunswick
Maine’s own acoustic string trio, Yard Sauce, will bring a blend of old‑time, bluegrass, country, folk and even traditional Shaker tunes to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick (UUCB) on Saturday, Oct. 24. The group’s performance, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., will support two local charities: Tedford Housing, which provides homes for people in need, and Midcoast New Mainers, an organization dedicated to improving quality of life for residents of the mid‑coast region.
The concert, titled “Concert for a Cause,” is a community‑oriented event. All money raised—tickets, concessions and donations—will go directly to the two nonprofits. The show will take place in the church’s fellowship hall, a space that has hosted a variety of cultural events in recent years.
A trio of seasoned musicians
Yard Sauce is a trio of Maine‑based musicians who have forged a dynamic live sound that draws from a wide range of American roots traditions. The lineup consists of:
Chris Moore – a mandolinist and vocalist who grew up in Maine and studied piano and violin before earning a degree in acting at Skidmore College. After stints in New York City, Nashville and back to Maine, Moore has performed with bands such as The Fogg Brothers and Rust Farm, and he now directs music education at the 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. His recent solo release, “Changing Union” (2025), was produced by folk legend Tim O’Brien.
Jeff Christmas – a guitarist and singer who first picked up the instrument at age six. Christmas’s musical journey has taken him from pop and jazz to opera and Americana, and he has played in venues from the operatic stage to smoky bars. Raised in Burlington, North Carolina, he has lived in California, Massachusetts, Tennessee, South Carolina and, since 2015, Portland, Maine.
Callie Brennan – a fiddler and vocalist whose background includes a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the University of Colorado and two master’s degrees from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Brennan has performed worldwide, from the Barbican and Royal Festival Hall to the Sydney Opera House, and has collaborated with artists such as Bela Fleck and the Indigo Girls. Back in Maine, she plays with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Portland String Quartet and with pianist Laura Kargul.
The trio’s repertoire features not only classic bluegrass and old‑time numbers but also original compositions that reflect their varied musical journeys.
Tickets and how to attend
Tickets are priced at $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $10 for students and children. Advance tickets can be purchased at the church office, Gulf of Maine Books or online at ticketstripe.com/yardsauce. The concert is expected to sell out quickly, so those wishing to attend should secure tickets early.
Why the event matters
Tedford Housing is a non‑profit organization that provides safe, affordable housing to low‑income residents across Maine. Midcoast New Mainers, meanwhile, supports community‑building projects, including education, health and environmental initiatives. By supporting these charities, the event offers music lovers a chance to give back to their community while enjoying a high‑quality performance.
The UUCB has long served as a hub for community gatherings in Brunswick, and its partnership with Yard Sauce underscores a commitment to celebrating local talent while supporting essential services in the region. The evening promises lively tunes, warm hospitality and an evening of generosity—an event that illustrates how art can help strengthen community bonds.
