Scarborough’s Red Storm and Bangor’s Rams have seized the top spots in the opening fall poll released by Varsity Maine, each garnering four first‑place votes. The rankings, compiled from competition played before September 8, 2026, show Scarborough leading with 85 points while Bangor follows closely at 75 points.

The two programs have met repeatedly in the Class A championship over the past three seasons. Scarborough captured the title in 2023, while Bangor claimed the crown in 2024 and again in 2025, a streak that has kept the rivalry at the forefront of the sport’s local narrative.

Camden Hills, a perennial contender in Class A North, occupies the third position with a single first‑place vote and 57 points, underscoring its status as a consistent threat in the division.

The poll also features three notable ties. Yarmouth and Cape Elizabeth share the fourth spot with identical scores of 51 points each. At the seventh position, Kennebunk and Hermon are level at 21 points, while Falmouth and Maranacook are locked in a dead heat for tenth place, each recording 11 points.

Other schools round out the top ten: Windham sits at sixth with 47 points, Gorham at ninth with 16 points, and the two schools tied for tenth each earn 11 points. The total points reflect the staff’s assessment of each team’s performance through the early part of the season.

The poll’s methodology relies on games completed up to the specified date, with the top ten teams selected by the Varsity Maine editorial staff. Their evaluation highlights the early dominance of the two historic rivals while also illustrating the competitive balance among the remaining programs.

Overall, the early rankings suggest a season that could see Scarborough and Bangor vying for another championship showdown, with several other squads poised to challenge the established order.
