Portland Driver Fleeing Police Crashes Twice in Late‑Night Incident
PORTLAND, Maine – A 28‑year‑old Portland resident, Jace Murphy, was involved in a high‑speed crash that began near Deering Avenue and ended in a second collision at Portland Square on Sunday night. According to police reports, Murphy fled from officers after the first collision, only to crash again as he continued to drive.
The first incident occurred around Deering Avenue, where Murphy’s vehicle struck an unknown object or roadway feature. Police responded and attempted to apprehend the driver. Murphy, however, accelerated away from the scene and drove at a high speed, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, his vehicle collided once more, this time in the area known as Portland Square.
Officials have not released the specific circumstances that led to Murphy’s decision to flee, nor have they disclosed the extent of the damage or any injuries. The Department of Motor Vehicles will investigate the incident to determine whether any traffic violations or other legal infractions are involved.
The event serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with high‑speed driving and the importance of responding to police orders. Residents are urged to remain calm during emergencies and to prioritize public safety above all.
