Cape Elizabeth moves up in Varsity Maine girls soccer poll

Maine High‑School Girls Soccer Rankings: Camden Hills Clutch No. 1, Cape Elizabeth Surges
In the latest edition of the Varsity Maine girls‑soccer poll, the Camden Hills Windjammers have held the top spot for the third straight week, while the Scarborough Red Storm remain in second place. The rankings, released ahead of the Saturday weekend games, reflect results from matches played through the week ending Oct. 5.
Camden Hills, the only Class A team without a loss, closed the week with a 9‑0 record. Their undefeated streak keeps them firmly in the lead with 87 points, including six first‑place votes. Scarborough, also undefeated but with one tie (9‑0‑1), sits just behind with 82 points, a point set back on a single vote for first place.
Cape Elizabeth’s Capers made a notable leap, moving from fifth to a tie for third. The team’s 9‑1‑1 record includes a 3‑0 win over last week’s No. 10 Poland and a 2‑0 victory against Yarmouth on Saturday, avenging the loss that opened the season. Their performance has earned them 63 points, equal with Windham’s 63.
Windham’s 63 points place the Eagles in a three‑way tie for third with Cape Elizabeth, after a 9‑1‑1 record. The team’s results have been highlighted by a win over the Bonny Eagle Scots and a scoreless draw with South Portland Red Riots.
Yarmouth, finishing 5th with 56 points, posted a 2‑0 win over Cape Elizabeth in their season opener on Sept. 3. That game saw Gigi Sprague of Cape Elizabeth deliver a decisive goal before Yarmouth’s Chloe Parker could mount a counterattack.
South Portland Red Riots, with 41 points, maintain a solid standing at 6th place. They have recorded a series of stalemates, including draws against the Scots and the Red Storm, which have kept them competitive in the middle of the pack.
Bonny Eagle, entering the rankings for the first time at 7th with 23 points, remains on a 6‑1‑2 run. Their season has seen them face tough opponents such as Scarborough and South Portland, holding each to a tie.
Brunswick Dragons sit in 8th with 20 points, while Mt. Ararat Eagles occupy 9th with 16 points. Gardiner Tigers made their debut in the top ten at 10th place, earning 15 points on a 9‑0‑1 record.
The poll also notes votes for other schools: Poland (11), Kennebunk (6), Mt. Abram (6), Belfast (3), John Bapst (2), and Fort Kent (1).
These rankings will guide expectations as Maine’s girls’ soccer teams head into the final stretch of the season, with several schools poised to make a push for postseason play. As the teams settle into their positions, fans and players alike will be watching closely to see if the current order of power can hold or if a new contender will rise.
