According to unofficial results Tuesday night, 5,865 residents voted “yes” on the school budget, while 1,697 voted “no.” Related [What’s on the June ballot in Brunswick?](https://www.pressherald.com/2026/05/14/whats-on-the-june-ballot-in-brunswick/) The school board [cut nearly $2 million](https://www.pressherald.com/2026/04/12/brunswick-school-department-adopts-budget-after-2-million-in-cuts/) from Superintendent Phil Potenziano’s initial budget proposal during months of deliberations with the Town Council. In addition to saving more than expected on health and liability insurance, the board cut some funds intended for supplies, professional services, projects and facilities maintenance. The budget also eliminates eight positions: two administrative assistants, one custodian, three positions in ESOL (English for speakers of other languages), one high school teacher and one technology support role. The board also opted to use more than $100,000 in state aid to reduce the tax burden. Taking into account the municipal and county tax assessments, residents can expect to see a [5.2% tax hike](https://www.pressherald.com/2026/05/12/brunswick-adopts-budget-with-5-2-tax-hike/) on their property bills. OTHER LOCAL REFERENDUMS Residents within Brunswick School Department, Maine School Administrative District 75 and Regional School Unit 5 also voted on a bond referendum for Region 10 Technical High School, allowing the school, which serves several Midcoast communities, to issue about $116,000 in bonds for safety improvements to its Brunswick campus. Brunswick voters approved the measure 7,014-581, though vote counts from all the towns impacted weren’t immediately available Tuesday night.
