Milwaukee Brewers Capture First‑Ever World Series Title

By The Associated Press, October 31, 2026

In a dramatic finish to a 2026 World Series that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Milwaukee Brewers became the first franchise in National League history to lift the trophy. The Brewers won Game 5, 4‑1, in Tampa, clinching a 3‑2 series win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The series, which began on October 24, had been a roller‑coaster. Milwaukee opened strong with a 10‑1 victory in Game 3 at Tropicana Field, a blowout that seemed to tilt the momentum firmly in the Brewers’ favor. The Rays fought back in Game 4, staging a walk‑off that ended the game on four consecutive singles in the bottom of the frame. The rally gave Tampa a 2‑2 tie in the series and sent a wave of excitement through the Rays’ fan base, who had just won the American League pennant.

Game 5 was a tense affair. The Brewers’ rookie outfielder Cooper Pratt, now 25, delivered early with a single off pitcher Drew Rasmussen that put Milwaukee ahead 1‑0 in the top of the second. The Brewers’ pitching staff, anchored by Jacob Misiorowski—who was in line for the National League Cy Young Award—poured 5.2 innings of command, allowing only two hits and a walk before falling to the Rays’ bullpen in the bottom of the sixth.

With the Brewers up 4‑0 entering the seventh inning, the Milwaukee bullpen stepped in and held the Rays’ offense in check. David Hamilton provided an RBI single in the top of the fifth, while Pratt followed with a sacrifice fly that drove in a run. Williams Contreras added a double that brought in Christian Yelich for a final run, giving the Brewers a cushion that never wavered.

The 4‑1 win gave Milwaukee a 3‑2 series advantage and secured the franchise’s first World Series title. The victory also snapped a 44‑year drought that began in 1982 when the Brewers were eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

The Brewers finished the regular season with the best record in Major League Baseball, a 103‑59 mark, despite a payroll that ranked 19th among the 30 clubs at $146 million. The Rays, meanwhile, posted a 95.6 million payroll, 28th in the league. The matchup highlighted the competitive balance that can exist even among teams with modest financial resources.

“It’s exactly the kind of baseball that everyone says is what the game is supposed to be about,” former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter remarked in a post‑game interview. “The Brewers are a great example of that.”

For Milwaukee, the triumph is historic and emotional. Fans in Milwaukee and across the state celebrated late into the night, watching as the Brewers’ players lifted the Commissioner's Trophy onto the field. As the team walked off the diamond for the last time in the series, the city was abuzz with cheers that echoed through the streets of Wisconsin, a testament to a season that will be remembered for years to come.
