Bonny Eagle’s Lucas Klehn leads 45‑to‑6 rout of Oxford Hills in Standish

Standish, Oct. 9 – Bonny Eagle’s football squad finished an undefeated 6‑0 season with a convincing 45‑6 win over the previously unbeaten Oxford Hills Vikings. Senior quarterback Lucas Klehn was the star of the day, rushing for 170 yards and four touchdowns while also throwing a 67‑yard pass for a fifth score.

The Scots dominated in every phase of the game. The offense rushed for 497 yards, with Klehn accounting for 170 of those and adding a 91‑yard passing attack. “It adds a whole new facet to our offense,” Klehn said after the game. “We looked at their five guys up front and thought our five guys… were more conditioned. And that turned out to be true and we wore them down real fast.”

Ben Noe added 137 rushing yards, and Ben Havu contributed 97 yards on both offense and special teams. Havu made a 21‑yard field goal to put the Scots up 24‑6 early, and later returned a punt for an 85‑yard score that extended the lead.

Bonny Eagle’s defense held Oxford Hills to only six points. The Vikings were without key back Keegan Ridley, but his brother Mason and quarterback Toby Oufiero combined for 160 rushing yards. Oufiero’s 11‑yard run in the second quarter was the Vikings’ sole touchdown, cutting the deficit to 21‑6. Defensively, the Scots forced two pass breakups by Marcus Katane, Ben Noe, and Wes Pinkham on drives that reached the Scots’ 9‑ and 20‑yard lines.

Coach Kevin Cooper praised Klehn’s performance. “There are a lot of good players in the state of Maine, but I find it hard to believe that any of them are playing better than Lucas Klehn. He’s been unbelievable for us,” Cooper said.

Oxford Hills coach Nate Danforth reflected on the loss. “It’s good for these guys to have some adversity,” he said. “The first time this year we’ve had any adversity, really. We just have to get home, figure things out, and get back to work Monday.” The Vikings, who had allowed only 27 points in their first four games, will look to rebound in a home matchup against Portland next Friday.

For Bonny Eagle, the win cements its place as the second‑ranked team in the Varsity Maine poll. The Scots will host Exeter, New Hampshire, in their next game, followed by a showdown with arch‑rival and unbeaten Thornton Academy in Saco on Oct. 24.

Key statistics:

  • Bonny Eagle – Lucas Klehn: 10 carries, 170 yards, 4 rushing TDs; 4/5 pass, 91 yards, 1 passing TD. Ben Noe: 12 carries, 137 yards. Ben Havu: 5 carries, 97 yards.
  • Oxford Hills – Toby Oufiero: 7/17 pass, 59 yards; 17 carries, 100 yards, 1 TD. Mason Ridley: 15 carries, 60 yards.

The game, played at the stand‑out field in Standish, showcased the Scots’ balanced attack and strong defensive effort, underscoring why the team remains a top contender in Maine’s high‑school football landscape.
