Bill Maher hits back at Trump over blistering Truth Social post, jokes about president's dinner review

Comedian Bill Maher mocked a lengthy Truth Social post from President Donald Trump, in which the president reversed course on his assessment of the pair's second dinner at the White House.

During Friday's episode of HBO's "Real Time," Maher mocked Trump's 1,300-word Truth Social post, which criticized the comedian after their second White House dinner earlier this month.

"Did you see the 1,300-word tweet he sent out? Longest ever! Kind of a flex," Maher said. "I tell you, dining at the White House is the opposite of the Cheesecake Factory: After you leave, they review you. He went off on me like Kelly Clarkson in a toy store."

Maher went on to hold up a copy of Trump’s post — his longest ever to Truth Social — while insisting that the "whole point" of dining with Trump is so the two men can discuss their differences in a civil setting.

"And then, I go back to my job here, and then, the heartaches begin," he added.

Maher then read portions of the post to the audience to "address a few of the allegations" before jokingly agreeing with Trump’s assessment that he is a "complete and total loser."

"He talks about how I call him incessantly. I’ve never called you. You call me," Maher said. "I’d be afraid to call you. You’re the president, I’d think you’re too busy. Well, plainly not."

Maher also disputed Trump's claim that he "invited himself to the White House," joking, "As if you could do that. 'Sir, Bill Maher is here. Well, he's not invited, but it's the law.'"

Maher complained that Trump "doesn't even notice what I actually say." After reading Trump's assertion that he "doesn't even think it was a good thing to take the nuclear weapon away from Iran," the HBO host played clips of himself supporting U.S. military strikes against Iran. Maher then joked, "So am I smart now?"

Maher laughed as he read Trump's final assessment of the dinner: "I love this, 'Overall, I thought it was a good meeting.'"

The exchange followed Maher and Trump's second White House dinner on Oct. 15, which musician Kid Rock and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith also attended.

"The dinner last night with Kid Rock and Stephen A. [Smith] and Bill Maher was great," Trump told reporters after the dinner. "I think they had a good time."

The president added that Maher "likes me a lot more than people understand."

Trump and Maher have had a contentious relationship, but Axia Public Relations CEO Jason Mudd told Fox News Digital that Maher responded to the president's criticism with poise, even as the two offered conflicting accounts of their latest dinner.

"Humor answers an attack without escalating it. If Bill Maher were my client, I'd advise him to aim the jokes at the situation and away from the individual," Mudd said. "Reading the attack aloud, line by line, signals confidence. It tells the audience he read every word and still stayed calm. In most public disputes, the calmest voice wins the news cycle."

Fox News Digital reached out to Maher and the White House for comment.
