Belleville bakery to close in Woodfords Corner
The owners of Belleville, the artisanal bakeshop known for its laminated pastries and pizza, announced Wednesday their plans to close their Forest Avenue location for good in September.
“We’re ready to move on from small business bakery life, so we’re closing all operations at Belleville,” owners Chris Deutsch and Amy Fuller wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday.
“Running a small food service business is a grind,” they added. “Running a small business while simultaneously raising a family is at times an impossible juggling act.” Deutsch and Fuller could not be reached immediately for more details.
In June, the owners closed Belleville’s North Street flagship location, saying they didn’t have enough trained bakers on staff to get them through the busy season. They also said they felt the financial and logistical burden of operating two locations.

Wednesday’s announcement said Belleville will be open for retail sales this Saturday, and then for a “couple more days” in September, with specific dates to come.
Belleville’s baked goods have been cherished by local foodies and lauded in the media. In 2018, Bon Appetit magazine called Belleville’s croissants the “best and butteriest” in Portland. Earlier this year, their croissants came out on top in French-born Press Herald staff writer Salomé Cloteaux’s taste test of four city bakeries.
