Bath Iron Works is selling a house for $1. But you have to move it.

The median home price in Maine soared past $430,000 in June. Along the coast, including in Sagadahoc County, that number is even higher.
A listing on Washington Street in Bath offers a (much) cheaper option. But there’s a catch.
Bath Iron Works is looking to sell a house at 606 Washington St. for just $1 — as long as the buyer moves the buildings to a new site by November 2027.
The company announced the listing on Facebook Wednesday, adding that the buyer will be responsible for coming up with a relocation plan and paying all associated costs. The building will be sold as-is with no warranties, and the future buyer will assume all risks.

Also known as the Deering House, the Washington Street home was built in 1900, according to city tax records.
BIW is looking to remove three buildings along the Washington Street corridor as part of ongoing parking and traffic projects, company spokesperson David Hench said in an email Thursday.

The 606 Washington St. residence sits on the property where BIW plans to build an office building to house the Navy’s supervisor of shipbuilding, among other departments. The house is currently leased by a vendor to the Navy, Hench said.
Two other BIW-owned buildings, at 10 Bath St. and 32 South St., are also available for sale to a buyer who will remove them, though the Deering House is the most intact, Hench said.
