Authorities investigating fatal excavator accident in Gray

A fatal workplace accident involving an excavator on Monday in the town of Gray has claimed at least one life, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Monday night. Sheriff Kevin Joyce sent a brief email to local media indicating that his department had responded to a “fatal incident” at a work site in Gray, but he was unable to provide additional details such as the exact location, the number of people involved or the cause of the crash.
“The agency has begun an investigation but would not be able to share more information until it is completed,” an OSHA spokesperson said on Tuesday. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has six months to finish its inquiry and is working in conjunction with the sheriff’s office.
Joyce said more information is expected to be released on Tuesday, but did not elaborate on what those details might include. The sheriff’s office is assisting OSHA in its investigation, though no additional facts about the incident have yet been made public.
Gray, a small town in southwestern Maine, was the scene of the incident, but investigators have not yet released the specific site or any statements from witnesses. No other casualties have been reported, and no other workers were injured according to the current information available.
The incident is still developing, and authorities have requested that residents refrain from speculation until the investigation is complete.
