Allagash White named to American Craft Beer Hall of Fame
Allagash White, the flagship beer of Portland’s Allagash Brewing Company, was named a “Landmark Craft Beer” in the American Craft Beer Hall of Fame during its second‑annual induction ceremony in August. The honor, presented by the organization that honors seminal beers across the United States, places Allagash White among a roster of classics that helped shape the craft brewing landscape.
The Hall of Fame inductee list for the August ceremony also included Goose Island Beer Company’s Bourbon County Stout, Russian River Brewing Company’s Pliny the Elder, Pete’s Brewing Company’s Wicked Ale and Alaskan Brewing Company’s Smoked Porter. In its inaugural year, the Hall of Fame welcomed five more staples: Anchor Liberty Ale, Anchor Steam Beer, Celis White, Samuel Adams Boston Lager and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
Describing the Allagash White entry, the Hall of Fame noted it “is a landmark American interpretation of Belgian‑style witbier that introduced generations of drinkers to an entirely different tradition of brewing and drinking. Its accessibility, consistency, and distinctive character helped expand the American craft beer palate beyond the hop‑forward and malt‑driven styles that dominated much of the early movement.”
Allagash White is a Belgian‑style witbier that has earned a reputation for its bright citrus notes, peppered finish and easy‑drinking nature. Over the years, it has collected nine medals in competitions such as the World Beer Cup and the European Beer Star Awards. Most recently, the brew earned a gold medal at the 2026 World Beer Cup in April, outperforming 67 competitors in its category.
The Allagash Brewing Company, located in Portland, has long been a touchstone in Maine’s brewing scene. Founded in 1988 by a group of Belgian beer enthusiasts, the company brought a distinctly European style to a region dominated by traditional American lagers and ales. Its flagship witbier was one of the first widely available Belgian‑style beers in the U.S., and it quickly became a staple of the craft beer movement.
