Dead‑to‑the‑Core to Play in Bath on Oct. 10 – Concert and Jam Session

Bath, Maine – The local music community will have a chance to dive into Grateful Dead repertoire at a weekend event that blends performance, workshop, and community participation. On Saturday, October 10, the collective Dead to the Core—made up of singer‑songwriters and acoustic musicians—will headline at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Dead to the Core is spearheaded by songwriter and author Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers, who brings a deep appreciation for the classic rock band. Rather than replaying Dead songs note for note, the group interprets the material in their own style, allowing the tunes to evolve collaboratively. In addition to the performance, Rodgers will share excerpts from his own interviews with Grateful Dead founders Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, providing listeners with insights into the roots and development of the music.

A pre‑concert jam session is also available. The session lets anyone—whether they bring an acoustic guitar or just a voice—learn the basics of classic Dead songs. Rodgers and the collective will provide lyric and chord sheets and walk participants through the song structures and rhythms. The jam is scheduled for the evening, but the exact time is not listed; tickets for the session cost $17.35.

Ticket pricing for the evening is as follows:

  • General admission: $22.99
  • Veterans, students, and seniors: $20.72
  • Jam session: $17.35

All tickets can be purchased online at chocolatechurcharts.org. The Chocolate Church Arts Center, located at 804 Washington Street in Bath, will host the event.

“We’re excited to share a night that lets people both listen and participate, honoring the Grateful Dead’s legacy through community,” Rodgers told reporters.

The Chocolate Church has long been a gathering spot for local musicians and art lovers, and this event promises to bring the spirit of jam sessions into the historic building. Whether you’re a longtime Dead fan or simply looking to explore classic rock through a new lens, the evening offers a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere for all ages.
