8 Maine events this week include ‘Million Dollar Quartet,’ Acton fair

Be a very happy fly on the wall on the fateful night when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins wound up together at the iconic Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. “Million Dollar Quartet” is a Broadway musical bursting with legendary songs including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Walk the Line,” “Great Balls of Fire” and “Hound Dog,” among many others from the fabulous four musicians who made history on Dec. 4, 1956. The show is a co-production of Maine State Music Theatre and The Public Theatre.

The Acton Fair is a feather in York County’s cap every summer. The fair features a rabbit barn, dairy barn, a car show, worm composting for beginners, pig calling, women’s skillet throw competition, milking demos, music and more. Be sure to try your hand at cow patty bingo, though you may have to hold your nose while laughing at its silliness.

Portland’s Out There Theater Company presents a smart, hilarious play that’s set in an aerobics class. “Last Class: A Jazzercise Play,” was written by Megan Hill, and stars Kathryn Kellogg and Grace MacNeil as instructors Kelsea Wiggins and MH Fray. When a rise in Zumba’s popularity eclipses old-school Jazzercise, the pair do everything they can to keep it alive at the Portland Community Center.

Heat Wave: The Linda Ronstadt Experience

If you’re a fan of singer Linda Ronstadt, there are three chances this weekend to hear her songs performed live by a sensational tribute act, fronted by vocalist Kelly Caufield. You’ll hear classic Ronstadt songs like “Long Long Time,” “Blue Bayou,” “That’ll Be the Day” and “It’s So Easy.” Ronstadt, 80, announced her retirement in 2011, and two years later said that she had lost her ability to sing as a result of progressive supranuclear palsy. Here’s a chance to hear many of the songs that made her famous live.

“Unabashedly” makes its world premiere in Waterville as part of the American Association for Community Theatre’s 2026 NewPlayFest. Written by Mike Teverbaugh, the play is set in the newsroom of a newspaper, and traces the connection between an editor named Dave and reporter named Helen. With inspiration drawn from an ancient Chinese belief about an unbreakable red thread that brings together those destined to meet, “Unabashedly” promises to be a moving take on human connection.

The New England Toy and Record Show also features autograph opportunities from Ross Beadman (Sors Bandeam in “Star Wars Episode III — Revenge of the Sith) and Brad Loree (Michael Myers in “Halloween: Resurrection”).

The 5th annual Seacoast Food Truck Festival features 15 food trucks to satisfy every tastebud and sweet tooth. For a doggone good time for you and your canine companion, head to Pet Rock in the Park on Sunday. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the gathering that features a wide range of vendors, nonprofits and food trucks. Proceeds support the Animal Cancer Foundation and other animal-centric causes.
