6 events at the Scarborough marsh this summer

There is no shortage of activities and events at the Scarborough marsh this summer, whether you love wildlife watching, group walks or volunteering.
The Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center hosts early morning bird walks every Wednesday at 8 a.m. all season. The center — located at 92 Pine Point Road — has binoculars you can borrow if you don’t have your own.
On the same day, you can return to the marsh from 10:30 a.m. to noon for the Family Nature Walk: Mummichugs and Marsh Muck from June 17 to Aug. 26. These walks cost $22 per family for two adults and two children, plus $10 for each additional adult and $5 for each additional child. The maximum cost is $30 per family. Spots are first come, first served. Families will explore the plants and animals in the marsh with fun activities during the walk.

Or you can take another bird walk with Scarborough Land Trust volunteer and expert birder Brad Woodward on the Eastern Trail. The free event takes place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The Eastern Trail Alliance hosts a full moon walk in the marsh on a monthly basis, and the next one takes place 7:45-9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at 138 Pine Point Road. It’s free, but attendance is limited to 35 people, so register online now. Pets aren’t allowed. You can email [email protected] with any questions. The full moon walk in August takes place on the 27th.
The Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center is looking for volunteers to help them survey the habitat around them. On Aug. 2, enjoy the marsh and give back to the community for Insect and Plant Biodiversity Day. The data will be shared with scientists who look for any changes or trends and determine the health of the marsh. The event — which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at 92 Pine Point Road — is free, but registration is required.

For the ultimate marsh event, join the Scarborough Land Trust in celebrating the marsh with a full day of activities on Marsh Day. On Aug. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be guided walk and paddle tours, opportunities to learn about the animals that live in the marsh, crafts, booths, presentations and demonstrations.
Throughout the season, you can rent kayaks and canoes at the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center. The center also offers full moon, sunset and early morning canoe tours and kayak tours, as well as a variety of other art and education programs.
