Two great white sharks were spotted near Pine Point Beach in Scarborough on Tuesday.
The two juvenile great white sharks were roughly 6-8 feet in length, the Scarborough Police Department stated in a public safety advisory.
The reported sightings took place off the southern tip of Prouts Neck and near the mouth of the Scarborough River.

“The information was relayed to the Marine Resource Officer by a shark expert with the New England Aquarium, who reviewed video footage submitted by a local recreational fisherman,” the advisory states.
Officials recommend beachgoers “remain vigilant” when in the water.
“While shark encounters remain rare in Maine, the public is encouraged to use caution, avoid swimming near schools of bait fish or seals, and report any additional sightings to local authorities,” the advisory states.
