Two people were injured after a boat caught fire on Moosehead Lake on Tuesday.

The Greenville Fire Department and Maine Warden Service responded to reports of a boat fire on the water near Sugar Island at about 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the Greenville Firefighters Association said in a social media post Wednesday.

The vessel was fully involved when first responders arrived, the association said.

Two people on the boat entered the water when it caught fire and were brought to safety by nearby boaters, the association said. Both sustained burn injuries.

One was evaluated and released at the scene, according to the association, while the other was transported to a hospital in Greenville with non-life-threatening injuries.

The vessel was towed to Lily Bay State Park to be fully extinguished and removed from the water, the association said. It was deemed a total loss.

The Greenville Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, and state park officials assisted in the response. The Office of State Fire Marshal and Maine Department of Environmental Protection were also consulted during the incident.
