10 places to rent a bike in Greater Portland

Do you want to ride a bike but you don’t want to purchase one yet? Are you looking for a fun day trip while you visit Portland?
Here are 10 places in Greater Portland where you can rent a bike.
PEAKS ISLAND
Brad and Wyatt’s Island Bike Rental
115 Island Ave., Peaks Island
Stop by this family-owned and operated bike shop that’s a couple of minutes’ walk from the ferry terminal. The bikes are first come, first served, but groups of eight or more must reserve in advance.
Single bikes cost $20 for two hours, $30 for up to four hours and $40 for the full day. Electronic bikes cost $30 for one hour and $70 for three hours.
Helmets and maps are included with your rental, as well as advice on the best places to visit on the island.

PORTLAND
6 Commercial St., Portland
This bicycle shop in the Old Port offers adult and children’s bikes a stone’s throw away from the Eastern Promenade trail. Both adult and children’s bikes cost $25 to rent for a half day, or four hours, and $45 for a full-day rental. Electric bikes cost $55 for a half day and $85 for a full day. Rentals come with helmets and locks.
Portland Encyclopedia also offers daily guided rides, like a 15-mile ride to five lighthouses (starting at $149 a person) or a pedal around Peak’s Island ($95 for adults, $60 for 16 and younger).

You can rent bikes for up to two weeks through the Portland Gear Hub, and longer if you email [email protected].
Rental prices start at a flat rate of $80 for up to four days, and after that, it’s $5 per day. Rental bikes come with a helmet, u-lock, basket and Bicycle Benefits sticker (which you can use for discounts at businesses in Greater Portland).

SCARBOROUGH
10 Snow Canning Road, Scarborough
This business offers one-speed cruisers ($25 a day), hybrid bikes ($35 a day), tandem bicycles ($35 a day) and children’s bicycles ($14 a day) — some with training wheels. They also have an option to rent for up to two weeks. Helmets and locks are included.
SOUTH PORTLAND
37 Ocean St., South Portland
Rent road bikes, beach cruisers, gravel bikes or hybrid bikes by the hour, day or week. Rentals are $20 for two hours, $30 for three hours, $40 for eight hours and $50 for overnight.
Lighthouse bikes also offers two-hour ($85), three-hour ($109) or custom guided tours, with Bug Light, Spring Point Light and Portland Headlight as favorite stops.

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

This shop rents hybrid bikes for $40 a day, road bikes for $50 a day, mountain bikes for $50 a day, fat bikes for $50 a day and electronic bikes for $75 a day.
Gravel bikes are available for $60 in the Portland and Saco locations only, full-suspension mountain bikes are available for $100 a day only in Portland and high-end road bikes are available in Portland and Wells for $85 a day. Children’s bikes cost $25 a day and are only available in Saco and Wells.
The Portland, Saco and Waterville locations also host weekly group rides.
