1 dead, 1 injured in head-on crash in Eddington

One person was killed Monday afternoon in a collision involving a van and a parked work vehicle in Eddington, a small town in Penobscot County, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency crews were called to Route 9 near the Eddington Fire Department at approximately 1:10 p.m. after reports of a motor vehicle accident. Authorities said a van traveling westbound on Route 9 crossed the roadway and struck a work vehicle that was legally parked in a breakdown lane.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the parked work vehicle was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment. No names have been released.

The Sheriff's Office said the crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine what caused the van to leave its lane.

Fire and rescue personnel from Eddington, Holden and Brewer responded to the scene, along with Capital Ambulance.
