Resident Held After Body Found in Brunswick Home

A man was discovered dead on a Brunswick property early Tuesday morning, and a resident was arrested on charges related to the incident. The Brunswick Police Department, joined by Maine State Police and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, responded to the address 5 Valerie Ave. after hearing reports of gunshots.

“The Brunswick Police Department responded to 5 Valerie Ave. shortly before 1 a.m. on Tuesday for reports of gunshots,” said Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety. The officers found a deceased male on the premises and detained a resident who is now in custody at Cumberland County Jail. Moss did not release the suspect’s name or the specific charges.

Moss added, “A man was found dead on the property, and a resident was taken into custody on charges related to the incident.” The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted to confirm the identity of the victim and determine the cause of death.

Maine State Police and the Office of State Fire Marshal have joined the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the investigation to contact the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit at 207‑624‑7076, extension 9.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity of the victim remain unknown. The Brunswick Police Department has not yet released a statement regarding motive or whether the suspect is an acquaintance of the victim.
